R77.40 is not a valid version.

If these are 1490s, they are most likely running R77.20.

Are these 1490s managed with an external management station (e.g. a Smart-1 appliance) or are they self-managed?

The more information you can provide about the environment and why you are needing to perform a replacement, the better assistance we can provide.

In this case, it should be relatively straightforward:

  1. Configure the 1490s with the network settings/IPs of the previous appliances. You did make backups/notes of this, right? Also configure a SIC password (can be different from previous one).
  2. In the individual gateway objects in SmartConsole, reset SIC and re-establish SIC to each gateway using the password created in step 1.
  3. Push policy to new gateways.

Thanks. actually the existing firewall is not completely down. in that case can you explain the steps for replacing the firewalls with minimum/zero downtime?

There is no easy way for this replacement - please see Check Point 1100/1200R/1400 Appliances Centrally Managed Administration Guide R77.20.75 p.13ff.
