Need to replace both firewalls in the cluster setup with same hardware and os

R77.40 is not a valid version.
If these are 1490s, they are most likely running R77.20.
Are these 1490s managed with an external management station (e.g. a Smart-1 appliance) or are they self-managed?
The more information you can provide about the environment and why you are needing to perform a replacement, the better assistance we can provide.

In this case, it should be relatively straightforward:
- Configure the 1490s with the network settings/IPs of the previous appliances. You did make backups/notes of this, right? Also configure a SIC password (can be different from previous one).
- In the individual gateway objects in SmartConsole, reset SIC and re-establish SIC to each gateway using the password created in step 1.
- Push policy to new gateways.

Thanks. actually the existing firewall is not completely down. in that case can you explain the steps for replacing the firewalls with minimum/zero downtime?

There is no easy way for this replacement - please see Check Point 1100/1200R/1400 Appliances Centrally Managed Administration Guide R77.20.75 p.13ff.
