Maestro Madness
Hi all.
In the past many people have sworn by using an additional virtual machine to swing through upgrading Management to another version. Eg:
- build the VM with the same version of CP Management that the production appliance is running
- upgrade_export from the appliance
- upgrade_import into VM
- upgrade the VM to the target version
- rebuild the appliance with target version
- upgrade_export from the VM
- upgrade_import into the appliance
I see that CPUSE is the listed method of upgrade in the R80.10 upgrade document.
I'm about to go from R80 to R80.10. What is your preferred method of upgrade, and in a few words, why?
Regards,
Jason
My preferred management upgrade method actually doesn't include any upgrades:
- checking the R7x, R8x upgrade map if direct upgrade to target version is possible
- copy migrate tools of target version onto the appliance
- migrate export on appliance with migrate tools of target version
- build the VM with target version and migrate import into VM
- test, evaluate, document proper functionality
- migrate export from VM
- rebuild the appliance with target version
- migrate import into the appliance, final tests

In case the appliance was previously migrated from an older version before I'd try get rid of any migration relics by exporting the policy to XML/CSV and importing it directly into a fresh VM installed with the target version.
Thanks Danny, I had forgotten about that route.
You cannot migrate export/migrate import from R80 to R80.10.
Which leaves you one choice: use CPUSE.
Thanks for responding Dameon. Are there no migrate tools for R80.10 as per comments from Danny?
The tools Danny describes exist for R77.x.
They do not for R80, unfortunately.
Thanks Dameon.
