Are you using local licensing or central, eval?

Typically it's the Security Management's IP.

According to the documentation from Broadcom, you can change the license of your Secure Gateway by connecting to the ISG via SSH, accessing the CLI and entering enable mode, and then using the command licensing load id license_id username username password password. You will need to have your license ID available before installing your license.

Please clarify the check point appliance model, software version in question and management / license mode?

The Gateway is a CPAP-SG5200-NGTP, in R81 with local license mode

Yes, however per sk62685:

  • You must generate licenses for the main IP address of the corresponding object in SmartConsole.
