CP 4800 - How to upload hotfixes/files via USB

Hello Mates

I am trying to apply hotfixes to  CP 4800 which is not yet on the network (no mgmt, no FTP), only LOM is available, but with very low throughput. I tried uploading .iso via LOM but its unusable in our environment.

How can we transfer files to appliance via USB? does USB stick need some special formatting? does it need to be ISO from files, or simply copied files there is enough? what would be the mount / copy procedure?

Thank you

Hello,

If you need to copy standard hotfix files (.tgz), you just have to format the USB drive with FAT32 file system, and then mount it on the firewall with command similar to:

mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt

Where sdb1 is your USB drive. Keep in mind you have to check as what name in /dev the USB drive was recognized. I gave you sdb just as an example. In most of the cases you can check that with: dmesg | grep sd

If you want to make fresh install and boot from USB, you have to use ISOmorphic tool (sk65205).
