CheckMates Go:
Maestro Madness
Hi,
I'm working on a 1550 SMB firewall running R80.20.00 and am seeing these log messages:
cposd: [CPOSD] Current flash status (EMMC % of device lifetime used) - 100%.
How serious is that? I believe the EMMC messages were added in R80?
and am wondering if they really imply impending failure of the flash
storage? Or.. is there still some life left? I assume logging degrades
the storage and maybe best left off?
Thanks. in advance for comments/replies.
Please review sk178486 and if the problem persists contact TAC.
thanks Chris. I ran the 'show diag' and it comes back with similar info:
<snip>
EMMC % of device lifetime used: 100% - NOK
EMMC EOL status: Normal - OK
</snip>
I guess my question is how to interpret that result. Is it fairly conservative or should I tell my client its time to replace the firewalls?
I agree with Chris. If upgrading to version mentioned in sk does not help, I would contact TAC and see what they say, thats probably your best bet. Maybe dont suggest your customer replacing the box as of yet.
thanks - I'll update the firmware and see what 'show diag' returns on a later version.
I upgraded the 1550 to the latest FW v 80.20.40 and 'show diag' still reports (after install & reboot):
***
EMMC % of device lifetime used: 100% - NOK
EMMC EOL status: Normal - OK
***
apparently the NOK on the line showing 100% of the lifetime used
means 'Normal OK'?? [from EOL status on the next line]. I guess I'm
still puzzled as to how to interpret this.. is the flash memory
at end-of-life, meaning the device should be replaced? Or
is the flash memory OK?
As @Chris_Atkinson advised in his first response, probably best at this point to contact TAC and get an official answer. To me personally, but this is just my logic (I been wrong many times before lol), it reads as if status is okay (normal), but yet it says its 100% used. Well, if its 100% used, not sure that can be interpreted as normal state, its like saying your phone battery is 100% used, but its perfectly normal.
Anyway, just my 2 cents...
thanks.. I'll see if my client can get me added to their account to post
a support question. It seems odd that one has to consult TAC to get an answer
to a question like this?
Again, just my personal opinion, but most customers feel way more comfortable if answer comes officially from having a support ticket. Even though in reality, I would say almost 100% of the time, answers you see here are all valid, but clients would rather hear/accept support case stance, than if you tell them you got the answer from the community. Thats at least my experience : - )
Please contact TAC, for comparison here's values captured on a similar unit running R81.10.XX:
EMMC % of device lifetime used: 0-10% - OK (valid: 0 ~ 90%)
EMMC(Type B) % of device lifetime used: 0-10% - OK (valid: 0 ~ 90%)
EMMC EOL status: Normal - OK
