Maestro Madness
Hi,
We are currently looking at bringing the management of our Check Point estate back in-house and are getting conflicting information from our current support partner and our Check Point account manager regarding the licensing of our Gateways and our SMB devices that are managed via SmartProvisioning.
We understand the licensing of our gateways in that each one takes up 1 license and therefore we would be able to manage 50 gateways with a Smart-1 600-M Plus appliance.
The confusion comes with the licensing for the SMB devices for SmartProvisioning, while we know we need to purchase the LSM gateway extension license, one party is saying each SMB requires both an LSM license and 1/5th of a gateway licence (i.e. 5 SMB's will take up 1 gateway license) and the other party is saying each SMB requires an LSM license but only 1 gateway license per LSM profile is required.
Is anyone able to shed any light on this or is there any documentation available for LSM licensing?
Thanks
Mark
This is rather easy if you know it:
- To use LSM, you need a special license that is for an unlimited number of gateways (SMB or other)
- In SMS you use profiles that define the configuration for a group of GWs (5, 10, 50, 100, 1000...)
- SMB and GAiA GWs use different profiles
Your SMS has a 50 GW license so you can use 50 LSM Profiles for the LSM GWs.The LSM license itself is unlimited.
It sounds as though one party is confusing the 5:1 ratio of Smart-1 Cloud for SMB devices.
Thanks, yeah I believe this is what is confusing one of the parties.
Hi
I would recommend contacting Check Point Account Services directly:
For questions about support processes, contracts or User Center and licensing, please call Account Services at +1-972-444-6600 and select option 3.
Thanks, we didn't log a service request initially as we were working on our requirements directly with our Check Point Account Manager and a Check Point Engineer. It was when these requirements where then sent to our preferred Check Point reseller for a quote that the conflicting information came to light.

Thanks, this was our understanding as well until we had the conflicting information.
