migrate_server process tip

Hey guys,

Figured would share this, as I never had such issue before, but glad I was able to figure it out, so hope it can help others if they ever have same problem. So I followed below sk with a customer last week to export the config and we used exact same example, no issues.

https://support.checkpoint.com/results/sk/sk135172

When we tried import using example given, which I had done many times and it worked, but this time it failed with very generic error "failed to import", thats it, nothing else. I even ran verification, no problems.

This was simply R81.20 -> R81.20

After some thinking, I did following:

cd $FWDIR/scripts

./migrate_server import -v R81.20 /var/log/Export_mgmt.tgz

Worked like a charm, took 5 mins, licenses were okay, logs were there, policy worked as well.

Anyway, just wanted to pass that along in case anyone else comes across that problem.

We have done the upgrade from R81.10 to R81.20 on 6 MDS machines this way.

We did however exclude the logs from the export/import action and manually copied the logs en reindexed them.

Good to know Hugo. I never had an issue before with using examples from the sk, but for some reason, import simply kept failing, though we even did proper verification and even gave exported tgz file full permissions.

As far as I know, using the version flag and absolute paths was always the recommended approach.

I never had an issue that way.
