Clarity needed for RHEL 6.4

Hi Mates,

A client would like to get Endpoint Protection to secure their use of RHEL 6.4 and up. On the Harmony Endpoint Portal it indicates “Linux All Capabilities..….Latest” and “CPU Type……. Any Linux”, see screenshot:

In the data sheet, https://www.checkpoint.com/downloads/products/harmony-endpoint-solution-brief.pdf, it indicates RHEL (7.8-8.3).

Can someone please clarify if RHEL 6.4 is supported by Check Point Endpoint?

Refer to the following for the Linux distributions (and versions) supported with Harmony Endpoint: https://support.checkpoint.com/results/sk/sk170198
RHEL 6.4 is not supported.
If such support is critical, I recommend discussing an RFE with your local Check Point office.

I had customer who asked that same question to TAC on the phone and when they said it was supported, customer asked them "Did you guys test it?" and there was literally 10 seconds silence lol. To me, thats clear indication they did NOT test it, so how it came to conclusion it was supported, its beyond me.

TAC is not responsible for such tests, rather the QA team. With that said If it's not in the documentation (e.g. sk170198) it likely requires an RFE which should be discussed further with your local CP SE.

As a general rule however we typically also won't support an OS that isn't currently supported by it's manufacturer.

Hey Chris...I agree with you 100%, BUT, here is the irony in that particular situation I was referring to. So, after that call was done, I sent an official email via the case asking TAC to provide an answer as to how test was done, what exact version, if R&D did it or whoever else, we NEVER got a confirmation, which logically tells me, without shred of doubt, that it was NOT tested and answer was most likely made up.

Anywho, we tested it ourselves, did manage to make it work, but there was bunch of issues, so decided not to bother, as it was not listed anywhere as officially supported.

Excellent advice, as always. Thats what I always say to customers (regardless the vendor, if its CP, Fortinet, PAN, Cisco)...if we make something work, but its not officially supported, as long as they know its not supported by vendor, and they still want to run with it, its their choice.
