USB-C console cable

Hi all,

I having an issue connecting to a SG3800 using a USB-C console cable via a Raritan box.

I have a straight through USB-C to RJ45 cable (pinout is attached) where I connect RJ45 rollover adapter:

https://www.dustin.dk/product/5011036494/cisco-console-rollover-adapter-for-rj45-ethernet-cable?tab=....

Adapter pinout:

RJ45 Male to Female Rollover adapter
● Pinning: 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5, 5-4, 6-3, 7-2, 8-1
● Allows readily available Cat5e/Cat6 patch cables to be used

It works fine using RJ45 console port with a normal patch cable and the above mentioned adaptor.

My problem is that I need to connect a SG1500 to a Raritan box and the SG1500 only have USB-C console port

I know that baud rate is different on the 1500 compared to 3800

Any good ideas ?

Thanks in advance

Rgds,

Jesper

See sk177138: Console connectivity to SMB 1500 appliance via USB Type A on how to connect from serial port on your Console Server to USB A on 1500 !

Only limitation: You will not see the boot sequence messages...

I'm not sure if it will yield a different result but you could explore sk177138 for testing purposes atleast.

That doesn't help me much. I need to connect it to a Rartian box (https://www.raritan.com/products/serial-consoles/dominion-sx), not a windows PC. The idea is to be able to manage the firewall remotely via console port. It works on a 3800 using RJ45 port, but that is not an option on a 1500 as it only have USB-C console port. I can't even get the USB-C console port to work on the 3800 when connected to a Raritan.

You can verify this with TAC, but Im fairly sure this wont work with usb-c connection, unless its to a windows box.

Just for testing, can the 2 USB ports on a 3800 be used to connect to a console server ?

No - the USB A ports can only be used with a special firmware version on model 15x0(R).

meaning by default I can't connect the USB A port on the 1500 to a console server ?

What firmware is needed for this ?

Per default, no USB A port can be used as a console port on CP appliances. This questioning is getting a bit tiresome 😕 Looks like you just did not read sk177138... - all you need is found here including cable type and firmware:  sk177138: Console connectivity to SMB 1500 appliance via USB Type A

We are running R80.20.35 but not the same build as in the link. I will update the firewall.

On a 1800 there is 2 USB A ports. Can they be connected to console server as the 1500 ? Just for testing the cable. The 1500 is in Belgium and I'm in Denmark. I just want to be sure that the cable work before I ship it.
