MDS and Log Server

Hi,

I have a small MDS environment with 4 Domains and a VSX Cluster with 3 Virtual Systems. Basically, I have 1 virtual system in each Domain of the MDS.

Now, I want to add a Dedicated Log Server. What is the best approach?

  • Add as a regular Dedicated Log Sever in the Global Domain and then define in the properties of each Virtual System as a new Log Server?
  • Add as a Multi Domain Log server and then create a new Domain Log server for each Virtual System?

Thanks for your help on this.

Kind Regards

I would go for option 2.

A new MDLS and 3 DLS instances, one per domain, keeps the separation at the management/domain level.

You can add a DLS per domain but you'd have to buy 3 log licenses and then add each log server into the respective domain (through the local SmartConsole and not MDS SmartConsole).

That is about building three separate log servers (Gaia boxes) for the three domains.

@Oryx I believe you can't create one global LogServer and use them for all Domains. As @Don_Paterson mentioned I would go with a MultiDomainLogServer. One machine running all LogServers for all of your Domains.

If you want to have separate LogServers for every Domain you have to install 4 separate LogServer and managing them all.
