MDS Database Export Fails from R80.30 to R81.10

Hi Team,

We are planned to upgrade the MDS server from R80.30 to R81.10 version.

When we run pre-upgrade verifier it says pre-upgrade verifier ended successfully.

But we see below information:

/bin/cp: cannot stat '/mds_pre_upgrade.html': No such file or directory
/bin/cp: cannot stat '/mds_pre_upgrade.xls': No such file or directory

What could be the reason for the above error ?

Then we tried running export database without running pre-upgrade verifier.

We are getting an error 'Lack of space during exporting database'

This means in which partition there is lack of space ?

We have 40% free space in root partition and 20% free space in /var/log partition.

Do we need more space in above partitions ?

We have file 'mds_backup_logs.tar' with 32GB, can we delete this file  from the path /home/admin ?

This was experienced following sk163814: Security Management Upgrade (new upgrade process) ?

You can set the path yourself, usually, /var/log/ is used. Roughly, 2 times the current MDS used space is needed, as collected files are encrypted as the final step.

Hello Abrecht,

Thanks for quick response.

I have given the target path as /var/log/ and we have 30% free space in this partition.

You have mentioned that usually 2 times the current MDS used space, are you talking about the root space used ?

Do a df -h and look at the values, not the percentages.

When you include log files (not recommended on a MDS) you will need much more than you currently have available. then you should calculate with at least 70% free space. When you do a madsbakup, multiply the outputfile size by 4 to get the approximate value of needed free space.

Hello Nagaraja,

I will be glad to help, but I need more details.

Where did you see the errors you have mentioned (in which log/report/ GUI):

  • /bin/cp: cannot stat '/mds_pre_upgrade.html': No such file or directory
/bin/cp: cannot stat '/mds_pre_upgrade.xls': No such file or directory
  • 'Lack of space during exporting database'

Also, when running export without pre upgrade verifier, which command was used?

Feel free to email me directly with the information.

Best regards,

Itai
