How to interpret "diskspace requirements" in the release notes?
In the CP_R80.10_ReleaseNotes.pdf the diskspace requirements for a SMS are listed.
"Free Disk Space: 500GB (Installation included OS)
What does Check Point exactly mean?
=> Is a physical/virtual harddisk of 500G sufficient?
=> Do you need to account for the unprovisioned diskspace (backup and upgrade)
The default installation, when using a 500G harddisk will result in a 32G root slice and a 245G log slice.
Because of the unpartitioned space, there is not 500G diskspace available.
Is above setup OK, or should I make sure the /var/log slice is at least 500G?
Note:
Sure, more diskspace is better, but I would like to understand the requirements.
Many thanks,
Erwin

500GB (total disk size) is a good starting point, assuming the default partitioning is used.
The real answer will depend on:
- How many snapshots you want to keep around (you should be able to keep a couple)
- How many logs are generated by your gateways
- How long you keep the logs and events available
For my lab use, I use an instance drive smaller than 500GB and it works fine, but I'm only using a couple of gateways with nominal (not excessive) logging.

Dear Erwin,
In addition to Dameon's reply - you can increase the System-Root to above default.
Because in due course - the Root space will get filled and will there be situation to increase.
Hence at first when we setup as above - we give more root space. say 15% & vary the Log%
(As we know only Root & Log partition is configurable)
