The chipset is critical to the system. It provides the low-speed I/O such as the SATA channels and USB ports.

That message is from a Linux kernel feature added in 2016 to support better indirection for copying data between main memory and a PCIe device's memory. It's mostly used for variable-size copies to video cards. It isn't relevant for use as a firewall.
