What's New Quantum Spark 1900/2000 Appliances TechTalk: Video, Slides, and Q&A

Slides are available below the QA, which is below the session video:

Can you connect to a Quantum Spark via REST API?

SMP has an API: https://sc1.checkpoint.com/documents/latest/SmpAPIs/#introduction~v1%20
Embedded Gaia also has an API (although different from regular Management/Gaia API): https://sc1.checkpoint.com/documents/SMB_R81.10.X/AdminGuides_Locally_Managed/EN/Content/Topics/REST...

What is the timeframe to enable the WAN B (future use) on the 1800 series?

Not in the immediate plans. Please contact your local Check Point office.

Is there with R81.10.10 a virtual image version?

Not that is publicly available. We do make a Quantum Spark demo environment available via TechPoint (available to Check Point employees and partners).

For the rack-mount Spark appliances, which direction is the air flow?

Front to back

Is there roadmap for Quantum Spark to support SAML (via Azure AD/Entra ID) for Remote Access VPN?

Currently planned for Q2 2024 release (subject to change).

Is it possible to run SD-WAN with management locally and without the use of any cloud service?

Yes, as of R81.10.10 firmware. It includes smart SD-WAN rules, which is something not currently available on regular Quantum appliances or through central management.

Will VPN overlay SD-WAN work with locally managed 2000 Smart SDWAN works on 2000 Locally managed?

This feature requires Enterprise management (e.g. with Smart-1 appliances or Cloud).

Any plans to add more reports or improve the only one default report for locally managed Quantum Spark??

More reporting options are available via SMP.

Is it necessary to have https inspection enabled for SD-WAN to work?

No.

I assume that all of these models can build a cluster (using ClusterXL)?

Correct

Is Identity Awareness Supported?

Yes, with some limitations:

  • Identity Collector (supported from R81.10.05)
  • Identity Agents (not supported)

With Enterprise (Smart-1) management, identities can be shared collected via all methods from regular Quantum gateways.

Currently, the integration with AD allows to use the groups created in AD to create security rules. Any plans to allow to use specific users created in the AD and not only groups?

Not in the immediate plans. Please contact @Amir_Ayalon with your specific use case.

Quantum Spark appliances use different software than regular Quantum gateways. Will this change?

Quantum Spark appliances run Embedded Gaia, which is based on the regular Gaia OS. However, there are some feature/functionality differences between the two. We are looking at merging the two releases and/or reducing the delta between the two. This is a longer-term roadmap item.

Is possible to use "SD-WAN for SMB" and "IoT for SMB" in centrally managed Quantum Sparks?

Not currently.

Is R81.10.10 GA?

Yes, see: https://support.checkpoint.com/results/sk/sk181080

Is SMP is free for each single Spark appliance, I assume yes, but what happens when the customer has more than 1 appliance and need to manage multiple Appliances with SMP?

It's still free in this case.

Does spark solution has auto ipsec fail over feature i.e VPN redundancy?

This is configured as part of ISP Redundancy, yes.

When will R81.10.10 version become the recommend firmware? sk179615 still shows R81.10.08 as the recommended one.

In general, it takes a few weeks post-release until the new version becomes recommended.

What is the logs/events retention period in the current Spark Management? Is it still 3 months as it was in legacy SMP?

Yes, if more is needed, it's possible.

Is a zone-based policy possible on the latest firmware 81.10.10?

No. it's on the Roadmap
