RMA process power supply MHO-175

Recently we had a RMA of a faulty Power Supply in a MHO-175. TAC sent us a complete MHO-175 and suggests to change the whole appliance. We had a longer discussion with TAC because we didn't want to change the whole MHO. But we should do.

We changed all cabling, removed the MHO from rack, replaced the MHO and did a restore from backup. That's a lot of work to do and should be easier. Normally we had to remove the faulty power supply and install the new one. It's done in a minute, no restore, no cabling changes etc.

Is this a new way TAC did, why do they not sent a new power supply only if it's faulty ?

    • Appliance model (MHO-175)
    • Serial number
    • Description of the issue (including LED status)
    • Steps already taken (e.g., swapped power cables, checked LEDs)
    • Photos of the PSU and LED status (if possible)

5. Install the Replacement PSU

  • When you receive the replacement PSU, insert it into the empty slot.
  • Secure it and reconnect the power cable.
  • Verify the PSU status LED is steady green.

6. Return the Faulty PSU

  • Follow the instructions provided by Check Point for returning the faulty unit.

Additional Notes

  • Airflow Direction: Ensure the airflow direction of the PSU matches the fan modules for proper cooling.
  • Do not mix airflow directions in the same rack.

The 175 comes with 2 power supplies standard. Also you can order a extra power supply 

AC power supply unit replacement for MHO 140 and 175, with front to back airflow: CPAC-PSU-AC-MHO140/175

So I see no reason why you could just swap the supply itself.

@Lesley that's what I thought, but TAC insisted on changing the whole device.

In theory you are the owner of the appliance so if you really want you can do what you want 😉

Maybe there is a reason that why RMA team did it this why, no idea why. We have not this info. 

You always could just swap the power supply and tell in the case it works and hope they accept. (because if they send new unit they want the old one back + they to S/N swap in administration.)
