Installing R80.40 JHF T120 from T118 on Cluster GW's. Does Management need to be upgraded as well.

I saw one post here that said you can do it but still wasn't very clear. I am currently running a R80.40 T118 on both my management and GW's. Due to some Kernel crashes it was recommended to upgrade to the latest JHF of T120. Do I need to upgrade the Management servers as well to T120 prior to upgrading the GW's ?. Sorry this has been answered in other posts. Thanks for the responses.

No, you don't. Major version has to be the same (R80.40) but JHF doesn't matter. See this post also: Management JHF - Did You Know? - Check Point CheckMates

It depends on the reason you’re upgrading.
Some fixes actually require both management and gateway fixes, thus you need to upgrade both.
Best to check with the TAC on this for your specific case.

Also you can theoretically run any R80.x management version with the right JHF and manage any R80.x gateway.
Of course, you can’t leverage some of the newer features this way.
