Does the smart console override the setting on the end points or do they work in conjunction

Good day all

I was just wondering, does the Smart Console override the endpoints settings or do they work in conjunction with each other.  In particular password complexity.  I log into one of the endpoints and I see that the length is set to a minimum of 6 characters , when I go into the smart console I see it is set to a minimum of 12 characters. There is no settings in the smart console for password complexity just length but on the end points they have both complexity and length.  Do I need to go into each end point and change the length or does the smart console working in conjunction with with end points?  So then the smart console overrides the length and requires 12 character or more while the end points keep the complexity configuration and only the length is overridden?

Thank you in advance!!

Warren

You're looking at two different things:

  • The first screen refers to admin users created in SmartConsole.
  • The second screen refers to Gaia OS users.

These are different user databases and different password policies.

Hi', I'm not clear what exact settings you're referring to.
Can you provide a screenshot?

I see on the smart console you can only configured the lengtSmartConsoleSmartConsole

Now if I go into my firewall and go to password policy I see

FW01FW01

My question is, are these independent of each other, which means I need to get to both my firewalls and change the length from 6 to 12 or do they work in conjunction together meaning when I push policy from the smart console to the end points, the endpoints uses the length policy that was defined in the smart console while retaining the password complexity or is that wishful thinking and I have to go into each separately to make changes?  I see in the smart console you can only change the length there is no password complexity settings.

Thank you,

Sir!

Oh ok I thought that because you write your policies and then push them out to the endpoints that it was the same concept, I guess when I created my username/password on both i used the same username/password.  Thank you for clearing that up!!
