Appliances factory image in light of R80.20

Hello Mates,

We are moving forward to have R80.20 in appliances factory image, as it becomes the default image in CPUSE.

It is a great opportunity to hear your thoughts about the factory image concept:

  • What do you expect to find as the factory image now?
  • Do you use the factory image or automatically re-image the device?
  • We find CPUSE is widely used. Does the factory image mean anything at this stage?
  • Is dual image useful? Is single image enough?
  • Do you see different needs for gateways and management appliances?

Let’s have ourselves an open discussion, with the questions above as guidelines.

Cheers!

Let's kick it off:

  • What do you expect to find as the factory image now?
    • R80.10 is main stream for all new implementations at the moment, however we still install R77.30 as well
  • Do you use the factory image or automatically re-image the device?
    • Depends on the intended customer, as we still have 80% of the management on R77.30
  • We find CPUSE is widely used. Does the factory image mean anything at this stage?
    • When the box comes with R77.30 we use CPUSE to move to R80.10
  • Is dual image useful? Is single image enough?
    • At this time dual image would sure work for us
  • Do you see different needs for gateways and management appliances?
    • As we only use a multi domain setup for management this is for us not applicable.
Regards, Maarten
