what does email_status=New mean in product=MTA logs

There are few events generated from product=MTA which have email_status=New in it.

Does anyone know what does it mean

Is the email being sent waiting in its queue for its turn to get delivered?

Is the email already delivered?

Or the email is blocked?

Also, what does other email_status values mean?

• delivered
• deferred
• skipped
• bounced
• hold
• new
• scan_started
• scan_ended
