SmartLSM is not a new product. It exists for many versions already.

This product allows managing large scale environments, having hundreds or thousands of Gateways. For example, retail chain with a Gateway in each store. The security policy enforced on all these Gateways is usually similar, so the concept of SmartLSM using a Gateway Profile to define the security policy for all similar Gateways.

These are two different products:

Smart-1 is a Check Point Appliance for running the Security Management Server or Multi-Domain Security Management:

SmartLSM which is part of SmartProvisioning. is a Software Blade (Application) that lets you manage multiple gateways from one Security Management Server or Multi-Domain Security Management. SmartProvisioning defines, manages, and provisions (remotely configures) large-scale deployments of Check Point Security Gateways. 

SmartLSM is good for managing hundreds to thousands of gateways.
