SmartEvent options greyed out

Hi all.

I'm  trying to enable SmartEvent on an SMS. It's licensed for SmartEvent but the options in the object are greyed out as per this screenshot.

Any ideas why this might be before I raise a TAC?

Server is VMWare, R82 jhfa take 44. Recently upgraded from R81.10.

There is an existing dedicated log server also upgraded to R82 which is currently running SmartEvent. The plan is to decommission this dedicated server which is why I need to get SmartEvent running on the SMS.

Do you get anything when running evconfig from expert? If so, maybe try enable it there and come back to smart console, install database and test.

Like below:

[Expert@MANAGEMENT:0]# evconfig
Please select the installation you would like to update
1) SmartReporter. (disabled, select to enable)
2) SmartEvent Server. (disabled, select to enable)
3) SmartEvent Correlation Unit. (disabled, select to enable)
4) SmartEvent Intro. (disabled, select to enable)
5) SmartEvent Intro Correlation Unit. (disabled, select to enable)

6) Save and exit.
7) Exit without saving.

Thanks. I've just enabled them with evconfig and it's made no difference. Tried using both my personal login and the primary admin user.

Both SmartEvent Server and SmartEvent Correlation Unit enabled:

Did you tyry install database or reboot? If neither works, you may need to open TAC case. I will check some stuff in the lab later, though in my case those options are available.

This SMS has been around for a while.

Check if you don't have the Smart Event Intro Correlation Unit checked in Logs --> Additional Logging Configuration.

We had a conflict with this option once after upgrades to R80.x.

you have done this sk? make sure to make snapshot before. is old sk but could help

We've tried that SK, no luck. It just says object not found.

Have raised a support ticket with TAC to investigate other options.

On another note, are you an admin in smart console? Because if so, below options would not be greyed out...

Did you use to run MDS are are you running MDS now? Smart Event cannot be active on the MDS machine itself it needs to be a separate event system

Excellent point @Lesley . I actually did some research on this before and saw the same thing online.

It may have been an MDS at some point in the past. I don't really have a lot of history on the server. If it was an MDS is there anything I can do to fix this?

Hi,

Can you try to enable it via GuiDBedit.exe?

Network Objects -> network_objects -> sms-object -> abacus_server
Change it from false to true. Don't forget to save

And while you are in GuiDBedit.exe, what type object (Class Name) is the sms-object? host_ckp or gateway_ckp?
