VRRP - yes or no

I see a lot of articles about VRRP in the last days.

You can read some opinions and insights in these threads:

What is ClusterXL and VRRP ?

HA Cluster with 150+ VLAN Interfaces

ClusterXL - standby cannot reach gateway

Do we still need VRRP in future versions or is ClusterXL enough?

VRRP - YES4
VRRP - NO43

We have and we still use VRRP also for other reasons, not in a cluster environment. This is in a very special setup with a network loadbalancer / prioritizer / compresion unit. Here the default route is shared between a router and the FW based on VRRP.

We have over 600 Check Point customers and have all switched to ClusterXL. I see no need to use VRRP.

Best regards,

Lars

Right, one of the possible use cases for VRRP is using an external load balancer as I mentioned here:
