Upgrade Gateways Hardware

Dear Mates

I wish to upgrade the hardware of our gateways (Cluster) specifically adding more memory and change the harddrive to SSD. The gateways are currently running R80.20, and We wish to upgrade to R80.40 as well.

I am thinking of doing the following taks:

  • Save the R80.20 configuration on the standby cluster member
  • Switch it off, change the hardisk and add additional memory
  • Clean Install of R80.40 and them load the configuration
  • Proceed with the next member

Based your experience, is there any recommendation/new steps in order to ensure that the process goes well.

Would snapshot work? like running a snapshot, install R80.20 on SSD, import the snapshot snaphot, and then upgrade to 80.40

Thanks in advance

Other than the additional RAM and HDD change, will the hardware remain the same?
Then I think what you describe should work.

Hi PhoneBoy

Yes the Hardware will remain the same.

Just an additional question, we are current running dynamic routing protocol (BGP), running save configuration and Load Configuration would ensure that all the condiguration specifically the routing right?

Thanks

The snapshot method following sk92261 should be ideal in this case.

Snapshot is not recommended when there is a HD change. Time-wise, I would do a clean install, it is faster than export/import. Also, HDD change to SSD requires installation anyway, snapshot will not work before SDD is properly partitioned.
