Resetting sic does not affect production traffic right?

If you mean resetting SIC between gateway and management, this will be block all production traffic.
After resetting SIC the actual policy is unloaded and initial_policy is loaded. After reset and reestablishing SIC you have to install your policy.

If you restart SIC with the norestart option your production won't be affected and initial policy won't be loaded. More here.
