Announcement: Check Point R82 - Recommended Release

R82.png

R82 is now Check Point's recommended version for all customers

We are excited to announce that Check Point Quantum R82 has been officially designated as the recommended release for all Check Point customers. This major software release for Quantum products introduces numerous innovative capabilities designed to enhance your security infrastructure and streamline operations.

What does the “recommended” version mean?

The recommended version indicates that R82 is deployed on thousands of gateways worldwide and is the most suitable option for a wide range of customer use-cases.

Note: The recommended version is R82 with its latest recommended Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator

Key Features of R82:

  • Enhanced Threat Prevention: R82 introduces new AI-powered threat prevention engines, providing superior defense against zero-day threats, brand spoofing, malware, and more.
  • DNS Protection: The version adds DNS protection against NXNSAttack, offers DNS configuration granularity, and supports DNS-over-HTTPS Inspection.
  • HTTP/3 over QUIC: Check Point offers the industry's first complete protection for HTTP/3 over QUIC.
  • Automated HTTPS Inspection: Effortless and automated HTTPS Inspection deployment with granular controls and exceptional performance.
  • VSNext for VSX: A new versatile mode (VSNext) unifies management features and APIs across Virtual Systems and physical Security Gateways.
  • Cluster Management: Simplified cluster management with a new page in Gaia Portal and a new mode (ElasticXL) that enables Security Gateway clustering without the need for physical Orchestrators.
  • Superior Networking and Routing: R82 introduces a new version of Check Point's operating system with enhanced networking and routing capabilities.
  • Dynamic Policy Layer: Users and DevOps teams can now execute API calls directly to security gateways through a new dynamic policy layer.
  • Quantum-Resistant Encryption: R82 enables NIST-approved Kyber (ML-KEM) encryption to protect VPN traffic against future quantum computing-based hacking.

We believe that these enhancements will significantly improve your security posture and operational efficiency. For detailed information on the new features and improvements, please refer to the R82 Home Page and Release Notes.

We encourage all customers to upgrade to R82 to take full advantage of these new capabilities. Our support team is available to assist you with the upgrade process and to answer any questions you may have.

Thank you for your continued trust in Check Point.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that Quantum R81.10 release is approaching it’s end of support in March 2026. We recommend that you upgrade your systems at your earliest convenience.

Best Regards

Regarding ElasticXL, is there a migration model for customers using ClusterXL to easily migrate to new hardware and this feature?

We have new gear coming and wanted to take advantage of this feature.

Thanks

Hello DP7,

The migration tool will be integrated to jumbo shortly. In the meanwhile we can provide it privately to Check Point customers.

Thanks,

Matan.

That would be great, how should I request that?

Is this release only recommended for Quantum?  What about Cloudguard Iaas?  (Azure)

Reason I ask is I only see R82 as recommended on our Quantum gateways/mgmt servers, not our Cloudguard!

Thanks,

Dan
