Cool Feature in R80.x: Cloud-Based Demo Mode
Demo Mode has something that has been in SmartDashboard for many years.
It's a great way to experiment with the Check Point product without affecting your production environment.
Fun fact: In the early days, Demo Mode was exposed by using *local in the Server Name/IP address field of the login page. This still works in versions up to R77.30 even though there is a "Demo Mode" checkbox.
Due to the changes made in R80, there is no longer a built-in local demo mode.
However, you can leverage a "demo" of R80.x with a sample configuration in one of two ways:
- A local demo VM that you can install.
- See: Check Point R80 / R80.10 Local Demo
- Alternatively, you could build your own VM on any version using My Security Management Setup Script
- A cloud-based demo VM (recommended)
- This requires the following TCP ports to be allowed outbound: 443 (Previously also required TCP 18190 and 19009)
- See: Check Point R80x Cloud Demo
