vpn site to site with NAT

Hi all

HQ wants to set up a VPN with us, I've been testing it for a couple days now with no luck and still don't know what's wrong or what to do about it. Can someone please help me to see what is wrong with my configuration besides the problem.

  • my site: checkpoint, working in HA mode.
  • peer site(HQ) : Cisco Firewall
  • ISP router ip: 10.72.102.1

Untitled.png

I do as the documents (CP_R80.10_SitetoSiteVPN_AdminGuide.pdf)

1) enable IPSec vpn feature on gateway

   yes , already enabled

2) create a VPN cummunity

the other parameters i do not change. ( Encryption already confirm with HQ )

Untitled1.png

3) define VPN Domain on gateway.

according the documents, i shoud define VPN Domain on gateway--network management. but i found it already occupied by SSL VPN Setting, so i defined them in VPN cummunity

4) Confirming VPN router

this place make me so confused, why the source always my checkpoint internal management interface . although i had change them to 10.72.102.254 ( virtual ip of checkpoint external)

When i testing , the errors are little different. from the below pic,  MyTSi; 123.17....    it is another ISP for Internet.  the 123.17.x.x is the ip address of checkpoint another external interface virtual IP

and some times , the Error is "Traffic selectors unacceptable MyTSi: <IPv4 Universal Range> MyTSr: <IPv4 Universal Range>"

Untitled4.pngUntitled5.png

5) Added VPN rules on access policy and NAT policy

rule4, just open checkpoint to cisco permission for testing

rule5, i choose my site 192.168.1.0/24 to peer site 10.3.0.0 & 172.31.0.0 for testing,  it is no overlapping

NAT 11 & 12, our supply initial config, permit our site lan : 192.168.0.0 access Internet or other external interface will be NATed firstly.

I checked that, when 192.168.1.0 want to access HQ  with tunnel or without tunnel, it will be nated to 10.72.102.254 firstly.

K, lets start with the basics here. What do you see for phase 1 and 2? What about the other end? Its been a while since I worked on Cisco ASA, but I know you can check the status from ASDM, as well as ssh

I attached a file with some commands guy I used to work with gave me (he worked for Cisco TAC in India)

On CP side, you can run vpn tu and check ike and ipsec state, as well as vpn tu tlist -p ex_cisco_ip, so say vpn tu tlist -p 1.2.3.4

Also, on cp end, you can run below basic debugs:

vpn debug trunc

vpn debug ikeon

-generate traffic

-wait little bit, then run vpn debug ikeoff

get ike.elg and vpnd.elg from $FWDIR/log

examine and see if anything interesting

Hope that helps.

I can find no routable IP address in your list: 192.168.1.0, 10.0.3.0, 10.72.102.254, 10.72.102.1 et al are Private IPv4 addresses only for internal networks - IP packets originating from or addressed to a private IP address cannot be routed through the public Internet. See RFC 1918Address Allocation for Private Internets

our topology is simple,

internal subnet ---- core switch ---- checkpoint ( with several export interface , to ISP, to customer and to HQ )

two checkpoint external interface be setted 10.72.102.251 and 10.72.102.252, working in HA mode, the virtual IP is 10.72.102.254.

and HQ let us NAT firstly before access them.

so our internal subnets of 192.168.0.0 be NATed to 10.72.102.254 then go through the lease line to HQ. and my side next hop router ip 10.72.102.1  and the HQ Peer cisco is 10.3.0.254

the router map of checkpoint:

So nothing goes over the internet, only over leased line ? What does TAC suggest ?

from the checkpoint log, i can get the IKE responder cookie. but today, i tested again. always get this from the log.

Traffic selectors unacceptable MyTSi: <IPv4 Universal Range> MyTSr: <IPv4 Universal Range>

so, i tested "VPN Domain" with/without "disable NAT inside the vpn community", all failure.

acctually,  checkpoint (my side)--- internal subnet 192.168.0.0

                   cisco ( HQ side ) --- just open 10.3.0.0/24 + 172.31.1.0/24 + 192.168.154.0/23

before create tunnel,  my laptop 192.168.1.18 ----NAT---> 10.72.102.254 ( CP external interface to HQ ) ----> HQ network

just for testing.

i set my side VPN Domain :

 1) 192.168.1.0/24

 2) 192.168.1.0/24 + 10.72.102.0/24

 3) 10.72.102.0/24

 4) 192.168.0.0/16

i set HQ VPN Domain:

 1) 172.31.1.0/24

 2) 10.3.0.254/24

 3) 172.31.1.0/24 + 10.3.0.254/24

all failure. all logs include "Traffic selectors unacceptable MyTSi: <IPv4 Universal Range> MyTSr: <IPv4 Universal Range>"

------------------

as your mentioned i do the debugging, just "grep -A 40 -B 40 MyTSi"  to get about 80 lines log output. do not know whether it is useful.

If you see that message traffic selectors are not matching, to me, that sounds like phase 2 mismatch somewhere, ie enc domains. What does it show in Cisco side when they do the debugs?

You can try below:

debug vpn:

debug crypto condition peer x.x.x.x

debug crypto ikev1 200

debug crypto ipsec 200

to cancel all debugs-> undebug all
