cpviewdb.dat

Hey all

What period of data does each cpviewdb.dat file (/var/log/CPView_history/CPViewDBdat) hold?

Can this value be adjusted?

We plan to periodically copy this file from all our gateways to central storage location where it can be loaded in to the cpviewer utility.

Regards,

Simon

It keeps 30 days of history unless the available space in /var/log is below 512MB per https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doGoviewsolutiondetails=&solut...
Doesn't appear to be adjustable.

Thanks @PhoneBoy

If there are historical .dat files sitting in /var/log/CPView_history/, what is generating these? For example, there is a .dat file named CPViewDB_1605269861.dat in the folder, smaller in size to the running CPViewDB.dat file, with a Nov 13 timestamp.

Simon

We have the same issue - we have 11GB of old .dat files in the folder.  before we upgrade to R81.10 we are copying off and removing them.  seems strange that this would use diskspace until there is only 512MB free on the gateway 😞

I assume it won't cause any disruption if I remove some of these CPViewDB_42424524525.dat files.

Sure you can do:, instead of transfer, delete

  1. Make sure the /var/log partition is not full:

    [Expert@MyGW:0]# df -h

If it is full, then delete (transfer to an external storage) all unnecessary files.

  2. Restart the CPView service:

    [Expert@MyGW:0]# cpview -s off

    [Expert@MyGW:0]# cpview -s on

    [Expert@MyGW:0]# cpview -s stat

  3. Remove the current history database:

    1. Stop the CPView service:

      [Expert@MyGW:0]# cpview -s off

    2. Back up the current history database:

      [Expert@MyGW:0]# mkdir -v /var/log/cpview_history_database

      [Expert@MyGW:0]# mv -v $CPDIR/log/cpview_services/* /var/log/cpview_history_database

    3. Start the CPView service:

      [Expert@MyGW:0]# cpview -s on

      [Expert@MyGW:0]# cpview -s stat
