RAID issue on HP ProLiant DL360 G10

We are experiencing a RAID issue on the new HP ProLiant DL360 G10 servers. Mass Storage Device: HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10

image.png

Whenever a RAID is configured the GAiA R80.20 for GAiA 3.10 installer fails to identify it and won't let us proceed.
Is anyone else experiencing the same?

As a workaround we deleted the Mirror-RAID to be able to proceed installing Check Point. However, we'd like to enable RAID in order to use both disks for redundancy.

Which version are you trying to install?

Had to ask the version because I could see a symptom like this being the reason older versions aren't supported.

The listing on the HCL definitely suggests it should work. Sounds like time to open a ticket.

Is the RAID card physically part of the motherboard? If not, maybe HP can get you a card which is better-supported. I have a few G9s which were shipped to me with network cards Check Point's ixgbe doesn't support.

Did you ever successfully used the RAID in this server ? Any experience with R80.40 ? I heard reports that R80.40 even after deleting Mirror-RAID can not be installed as it does not recognize the disks...

I have 6 new HP DL360G10 to be installed this week will check again if something has changed.
But we have 10 boxes or so running that ISO and they working correctly with Raid 1

Since August 11th, HP strongly recommends for  HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10 the new bug fixed firmware 3.00, see https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX_48c00d95ff4d4bc7838dede870#tab4 and https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=emr_na-a00097210en_us.

Seems it has not been tested by CP yet...

@PhoneBoy can you direct someone from HW/HCL to this topic ? Seems quite important for all CP HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10 users as probable Data Loss is no good a all 😟.

I would assume that the automatic driver selection just skips as the test results do not fit. But is a driver available in the selection that could be selected manually ?

CP has a suggested step to resolve this : Regarding the detection of disks, please attempt going to the Bios, advanced configuration -> Enable Launch CSM

I ony know this for booting from USB ? But this BIOS option is not available - you could only switch from Legacy (used) to UEFI...

TAC has a new idea:
In case we are using USB, please attempt with USB 2.0, as per sk65205, USB 3.0 is not supported; furthermore based on previous experience and similar cases, using USB 3.0 may cause unexpected issues similar to the ones seen in this case.

Nice try - but a HP ProLiant DL360 G10 has no USB 2.0 ports, only 3.0 🤣...

ye i needed to try like 5 diff USB and alot of attempts because installing via ILO is apparently not supported.
After well alot of attpemts we did install over ILO and then no issue 😄
(iam still on the older BIOS, didn´t had time last week to try and not its vacation for 2 weeks)

Do you get same issue with mounting over ILO or only the USB?

Hello Danny,

we have the same issue and struggling to find a solution for 3 months. HPE confirm its not an issue with their hardware.

RAID 1, BIOS is in Lagacy mode, successfully installed R80.40, however after reboot, it is unable to detect the disk to boot.

Tried R77.30, R80.30 but none worked as it throws different errors while installing.

Initially it was with "Array controller HPE SMART ARRAY P408I-A SR GEN10"

Procured new HPE Smart Array P816i-a SR Gen10 as instructed by checkpoint to go with compatibility list but that also did not help.

We are in a critical situation to replace our old Gen 6 HPE servers with new Gen10, but we are stuck.

Checkpoint is currently looking into it again, however, if anyone have any answer for this, would be helpful.

thanks

Jinesh John

Hi,

I just installed two HP DL360 G10's, that included Smart Array P408i controller and used RAID 1 with two 480GB SSD's. I used the latest R80.40 ISO and used a Zalman ZM-VE350 (USB2) to install it on the DL360's. The first DL360 installed without any issue. The second server was a bit harder and after several tries, it finally installed without driver issues during installation. I switched to different USB ports (front and back) to see if that was the issue. Why it didn't install correctly on the second DL360 the first time is still a mystery to me. Conclusion is that it should work with R80.40.

Don't forget to follow sk108200, Required steps before installing Gaia OS on HP ProLiant Gen9 + Gen 10 servers.

Kind Regards,

Eamon Jones
