Quantum 3600 FTW

The last time we worked with 3600 series was when R80.40 was the recommended version and no issues there.

We have recently received two new 3600 for a project and can't seem to get past the FTW.

The two 3600 came shipped with R81.20 out of the box.

In the WebUI, it stays at 90% and each time we connect to the WebUI we get a popup telling the FTW is still proceeding, even after quite a while.

This is not the same scenario than in sk115613 because the FTW clearly isn't finished yet.

/var/log/ftw_install.log stops at the following line after which nothing more happens, even after leaving the appliances running for a full night:

Removing /sysimg/CPwrapper/linux/CPcvpn/CPcvpn-R81.20-00.i386.rpm
08/19/24 16:04:00 FTW: checking if isUsfwEnbled
08/19/24 16:04:00 FTW: enabling fwsetusermode
Important Note: Toggling usermode might have an effect on GW CoreXL split.

08/19/24 16:04:00 FTW: disabling sxlsetusermode

progress:ftw:spinstall:current
08/19/24 16:04:01 FTW: Starting spinstall

What we tried:

  • Install from USB R81.20 Build 631
  • Install from USB R81.10 Build 338
  • Install from USB R81.20 Build 634
  • Factory reset
  • Leaving parameter fields blank to rule out some process stuck in trying to reach DNS or such

The result stays the same, it never goes further than Starting spinstall

What we still need to try:

  • Create ISOMorphic drive with FTW and CPUSE/JHF baked in
  • Try FTW on CLI with configuration file
  • TAC if nothing of this works

Before we do so, maybe the community has good tips to share? Generally, FTW on Quantum appliances are but a formality.

EDIT: The gateways are staged as regular members in ClusterXL mode, no security management.

That was a character in the generated SIC password which caused some sort of conflict and "spinstall" to idle.

RFE: Have the FTW validate SIC password conformity. 😀

What specific characters should be excluded?

I didn't receive that specific information. When I have the time, I will try this password with one of our retired appliances that I will reinstall to see if it behaves similarly.
