Gaia Portal Recognized a non-valid username

Hi,

We install JHF take 84 on R81.20.

installation/update was successful, and we check services, and all are working normal.

However, when we try to create a new snapshot on Gaia after the JHF Take 84 installation we get an error message "Gaia Portal recognized a non-valid username".

we tried creating backup and it works. We create the snapshot on CLI and it works, it even shows the progress on Gaia.

Can anyone tell me what's happening?

Sounds like a bug, which should be reported via TAC: https://help.checkpoint.com

Hi @DarrelT, I've got the same problem here, but still on Take 54.  We'll be reporting to TAC unless you found a fix/workaround.

Hello,

like @DarrelT said, it's possible to create a snapshot via Clish. After you have done the snapshot one time via Clish you are able, to create snapshots via GUI without the error "Gaia Portal recognized a non-valid username" again. Tests were made for R81.20 JHF 84.

I never tried it in that jumbo, but just tested jumbo 90 and worked fine from web UI.

Hi,

I'm on R81.20 Jumbo Hotfix Take 98 and I got the same message ("Gaia Portal recognized a non-valid username"), when I tried to create a snapshot via GUI, in clish it is working fine...

Did you open a TAC case yet?

Not yet, as I got my Snapshot via clash...

I can test it in the lab shortly...give me an example of the username you tried this with?

In WebUI are only the default user created: admin and monitor...

I'm using an AD based user which is authenticated via RADIUS (looks like "abcd123")

Hi Guyz,

I do apologize for late response here. We were able to fix the issue.

We tried creating the snapshot and backup on CLI and it works. We also re install policy and the error was fix.

For what it's worth, I've just had the "Gaia Portal recognized a non-valid username" error when trying to create a snapshot. I immediately tried again - this time without entering any text in the description field of my snapshot create method - and it then worked fine.

Am running R82 Build 777.

I saw the same behavior. Second attempt and Gaia Portal did not throw the error, and it then APPEARS to have created a valid snapshot.

However, when I try to later download that manual snapshot (my first on this new appliance), it fails, changing the entire page to a white html page with an error I did not yet capture.

If you watch the /var/log/download folder you can see the .tar file being built (with the filename matching the Snapshot name).

There is 1.6 T of free space on the /var/log partition so it is not running out of space.

I tried the whole procedure twice, the second time I logged in with putty in expert mode and watched the /var/log/download folder
A tar file is generated there as a staging area for downloading through the browser, it seems.
The file grows.

At the point of the Gaia Portal interface error whereas the browser download fails,
I observed that the temporary tar file in /var/log/download is deleted.

[Expert@fli-smart01:0]# pwd
/var/log/download
[Expert@fli-smart01:0]# ls -l -h

Some context of what happened just before the above:

We are on a Smart-1 600 S running on a CPUSE-initiated clean install of R82 kicked off from the factory image which was R81.20

Immediately subsequent to that, we used cpuse to bring us to Version R82 JHF Take 44, Build 777

Either during the R81.20 to R82 clean CPUSE install, or the subsequent JHF that we installed from CPUSE thereafter, cpuse had created a default pre-upgrade snapshot called AutoSnap924745

Interestingly enough, From that same Gaia Portal Snapshot management UI I was able to download the snapshot that the CPUSE upgrade automatically created without an issue, saved as AutoSnap924745 to a local PC hard drive.

Once I had that snapshot safely offloaded I again used the gaia portal snapshot management page and deleted the AutoSnap924745 snapshot (since it used 43 percent of the snapshot free space.)

Then I created the first manual snapshot, 20260116PrePush

Got that "Gaia Portal recognized a non-valid username" error popup.
Hit ok and tried again, same filename.

It appears to create the snapshot fine.

Tried to download it twice, and got the weird failure and export tar file deletion.. It seems to fail while creating the compressed archive for download.

This is frustrating and esoteric.. which is par for the course lol.

Thanks!

I just went through the whole procedure again, including screencaps of the percentage of progress bar in gaia during the compression of the archive.. etc.. But CheckMates won't allow me to cut and paste ANY SCREEN CAPS I pasted into my on premise (non cloud) One Note...  Won't even allow me to if I use Windows Snipping tool to make a small clip of those clips..

Check Point, yer killn me here..

Hey Chris,

For that, just take screenshots, save them, then drag and drop into the massage body and will work, thats what I do all the time.

I find lately, at least for me, copy paste the photo works randomly, while used to work all the time. Not a big deal, thats why I drag and drop, thats always fine.

Andy

Yeah, it was never supported functionality in the community platform for whatever reason...

I tried again.

I am going to have to describe this verbally because I can't post any screencaps into this godforsaken forum reply..

At this point the Gaia Portal page crashes to a white html page with only this text on it:

The file could not be retrieved.
Here's what we know about
what went wrong:
The file PrePush20260116.tar doesn't exist
