Upgrade 1470 to 1490
I read somewhere that it is possible to upgrade 1470 to 1490 because HW is exactly the same and there is only a software limit. Is that so and under what conditions is that upgrade possible? Couldn't find this anywhere on the web.

That information is wrong - hardware is identical but restrictions apply. Upgrade is not possible - you could do a trade-in, but i fear that does not make much sense... I would rather suggest to optimize operations on the box.

Thanx, not asking because of performance considerations but I was more like curious to know.

May sound funny, but this scaling by customer needs makes good sense for the low budget - you just pay what you need and receive the same hardware platform. All power (both hardware and rulebase/policy) can be accessed using 14xx Management unit with SMS - still the same hardware, but higher price.

You can upgrade a 1470 to a 1490.
Basically you would pay the difference between the equivalent 1470 and 1490 SKUs through your reseller.
Once the order is processed, UserCenter will be updated with a new license for your unit.
Fetch the license, and you’ll have a 1490.

Wow, that's good to know. I may actually check what's the price diff and do that.

That is news for me - can you provide the Part Number ? I can not find that in the price list.

For purchasing, the SKU is the same as if you bought the 1490 beforehand.
The difference is in how it is processed on the backend (and the actual cost, of course).

So this is a license trade-in - some amount is deducted for the 1470 license.

I have talked with my collegue, and yes, when presenting this upgrade possibility (1430/1459 and 1470/1490) for the first time, it was announced that you would pay the difference between the equivalent 1470 and 1490 SKUs through your reseller. But this was very quickly changed to the old trade-in procedure: You pay the 1490 SKU minus 20% of the 1470 list SKU, but will not get new hardware, but only a new license. So this does not make sense according to my humble opinion 😉

Will have to verify this with the relevant parties as I agree this doesn't sound right.

It is just the same scheme as the usual Trade-In - only that the hardware does not change. My collegue from our CP Sales Team has verified that for me. He is glad nobody has ever asked for such an upgrade .

Sadly, you're correct (I found out through my own sources)...
We used to allow this on the 600/1100, I know that much.

Thanx for clarifying this guys. Not that big issue. Cheers!
