Replacing SMB appliance with 1530 to 2000 appliance.

Dear Team,

I have SMB appliance of 1530 series and version R81.10 15 (996003749), suspecting some sizing issue I have to replace it with the 2000 series appliance.

Environment: Cluster

I have taken the Backup file and Configuration file backups from the current appliance.

Below is the POA for replacement.

POA1:

- Take the Putty Access of new Appliance.
- Check the Firmware version.
- Plug the cables as it is.
- Upload the backup file and restore it.

My concern is the firmware version should be same as the current version to restore the system backup.

- Take the Putty Access of new Appliance.
- Perform the clean install using the SMB with the recommended version.
- Run the configuration backup of the current system.

Can you please suggest is my POAs need to be modified?

Regards,

Saranya

- Why Putty access ? I see no need in the proposed steps to do that, all can be performed using webGUI. I would rather switch on WinSCP access by bashUser on and use Putty from WinSCP!

- as you wrote, the firmware versions should be the same on both appliances for backup export and import, so you have to bring the 1530 to the firmware used in 2000

- last step is to update the license in WebGUI as the license from the backup will be installed that does not work with the 2000

- as this is a cluster, FTW has to be performed on both nodes to construct the cluster. Backup import should happen only on the active / primary node as the secondary / standby will be configured by sync only

Dear Team,

Thank you for the heads up!

If the new appliance is with the different firmware version, can I directly run the current configuration in the new appliance?

Saranya

As i wrote above: If  the 2000 has a higher firmware version, you have to upgrade the 1530 to this version before taking the backup.

Remark: I am no team at all...

@PhoneBoy - can you put this post to SMB ?

Importing from a lower version works often.
