1550w R80.20.30 upgrade to R81.10

Hi,

Did not find the guidance to upgrade my 1550w from R80.20.30 to R81.10. The target 1550w Gateway is configured as Standalone GW.

Can somebody guide me to the proper documentation to perform this upgrade please?

Best wishes,

Andrei

The 1500/1600/1800 appliances run a different code base, thus cannot currently be upgraded to R81.x.
The latest SMB release is R80.20.35.
We are planning an R81.x firmware release for these appliances during H1 2022.

Hi PhoneBoy, has the R81.x firmware release for these appliances during H1 2022 come to pass? Nothing in Upgrade Wizard yet nor am I able to trace any docs.

Quantum Spark appliances have a much smaller footprint than the bigger appliances or open server hardware. Mostly Flash based and with 2GB RAM, the OS is much smaller, has a different kernel and processes. Even if there is a R81.x firmware release it will still be only the smaller brother/sister with limited capabilities. This is the low end, sufficient for small companies and with a much lower price tag. Although the 1800 even has a HDD instead of the flash based disk usually found with SMBs, it still is not able to run GAiA and the full CP software blades, as it always relies on an Embedded GAiA firmware image.

A question about this came up during our recent roadmap session.
There will always be a difference in releases for regular Quantum appliances and Quantum Spark appliances due to the different nature of the hardware involved.
That said, we are working to reduce the delta between the two.

Thank you all very much for providing all needed explanations. I fully understand the differences and the approach for each family but I am absolutely eager to see the R81.10 firmware for our 1550w.

And why that ? What do you expect to see ? If you want to use R81.10 you should buy a GAiA appliance or OpenServer - there will never be SMB firmware with the same functionality as GAiA R81.10 for sure.

Hi,

I usually enjoy testing new software versions to get the full picture of what was improved, what is new and to discover the small issues. I could never upgrade to a new software version in blind, just because someone says it the best option - it needs to be the best option for my scenarios.

Best wishes,

Andrei
