Bandwidth Requirement for VPN
Hi Checkmates,
i have an issue with one of a staff who working from the mining site (limited internet connextion) when trying to connect VPN to HQ. RAVPN connection is not stable,
Just checking the guide but im not find anything related to the minimum and recommendation BW requirement for VPN.
Had checking with ISP team who created the satelite connection, the want to know the jitter and latency as well to have stable connection to the VPN.
Does anyone has the infromation or docs about that? Thankyou!

The answer to the question depends entirely on the applications being used.
IPsec itself adds latency and packet overhead, depending on the configuration.
You can assume at least 10% packet overhead for IPsec, though as the IPsec overhead calculator from Cisco shows, it varies based on your actual configuration.
Exact latency will depend on your configuration settings.

I agree with Phoneboy, it definitely depends on multiple factors.

It's the applications you use over the VPN that determines the bandwidth requirements.
VPN adds packet overhead and latency that you will have to account for.
MTU/Fragmentation issues can sometimes occur when traffic traverses a VPN.
