What migrate tool to be used when upgrading MDS from R80.10 to R80.40?

Hi All,

We are planning to upgrade a MDS from R80.10 to R80.40. However, when we checked the Upgrade Guides, it seems like we need to use the Check_Point_R80.40_T294_Gaia_SecurePlatform(above_R75.47)_Migration_tools.tgz tool since the current version is R80.10. However, in that tool, we do not see any option to select R80.10 as the current version which is confusing.

where the Currently installed version is one of the following:
R75.40 (aliases: R75.40_R75.40, 6.0.2.5)
R75.40VS (aliases: R75.40VS_R75.40VS, 6.0.3.0)
R76 (aliases: R76_R76, 6.0.3.5)
R77 (aliases: R77_R77, 6.0.4.0)

where the Target version is one of the following:
R75.40 (aliases: R75.40_R75.40, 6.0.2.5)
R75.40VS (aliases: R75.40VS_R75.40VS, 6.0.3.0)
R76 (aliases: R76_R76, 6.0.3.5)
R77 (aliases: R77_R77, 6.0.4.0)
R80 (aliases: R80_R80, 6.0.4.8)
R80.20 (aliases: R80.20_R80.20, 6.0.4.9)
R80.30 (aliases: R80.30_R80.30, 6.0.5.0)
R80.40 (aliases: R80.40_R80.40, 6.0.5.1)
[Expert@CP-MDS:0]#

However, in the documentation, the $MDS_FWDIR/scripts/migrate_server command is given as an upgrade from R80.20 and higher. Any thoughts about this? Really appreciate your help on this.

I would suggest an In-Place update with CPUSE !

Hi @G_W_Albrecht ,

This is a Virtual MDS and therefore we are planning to take a backup from the existing server as a R80.40 one and restore it in a fresh virtual MDS.

Regards!

The legacy migration tools (not migrate_server) should be used when upgrading from R80.10 to R80.40.

Hi All,

I found the below article that shows how to do the upgrade.

https://sc1.checkpoint.com/documents/R80.40/WebAdminGuides/EN/CP_R80.40_Installation_and_Upgrade_Gui...

But it always ends with the following error.

/mnt/cdrom/linux/p1_install/system/pre_upgrade/R80PU00010/execute: line 30: /opt/CPInstLog/hook_user_message.log: No such file or directory

Any idea about this?
