Can't find min system requirements info anywhere. We have been using our own hardware for many years now, and we'd like to upgrade to r80.10, but we need to know the hardware specs.
Hi Wilson,
Thank you for asking this question.
The minimum open server hardware specs are in the release notes of R80.10. You can find them here:

I assume you mean open server installation?
Having a look at the R80.10 release notes i see
I assume this are the min. requirements. As usual: The more the better.
regards
Vince
All I can say go as high as you possibly can. We doubled everything at first (CPU/RAM) but then were forced to quadruple it in order to have reasonable performance. Log search is still patchy, case open with CP.
Agreed. We have a lab environment with R80.10 and are convinced all the performance issues are code related and not hardware. Still running 77.30 in prod until a later release.
I must say that R80 offers heaps more and it takes additional resources. So there's price to pay for nice things I guess..
and since we run it in VM adding CPU/RAM was not such a big trouble. Otherwise I can definitely recommend upgrading. It helped us great deal despite some issues
Unfortunately since R80 is not yet FIPS 140-2 certified we cant move forward with an R80 upgrade anyway but I do agree with you in that the new features we have experienced in our lab seem to be worth the upgrade.
I'm not sure if you've been keeping up with this, but R80.20 is upon completion of the certification process.
Based on my experience, I would recommend a minimum of 4 cores and 16G of RAM.
By the way. Did anybody else install the alpha demo release of R80?
Back then the package installation took the whole day on my laptop and starting this virtual environment and the demo gui needed one hour to just have a little look at the new look and feel ![]()
This is largely because R80 management requires significantly more resources than R77.x and earlier.
Also, you need a Virtual Machine for demo mode now. ![]()
The good news is that we offer a "Cloud" version of Demo Mode that does not require you to have a VM installed locally.
We still do offer a local option for those that need it.

I know in R77.30 with VMware there was a RAM limitation of 196GB. Does this exist with R80.10+ as well?
Is the resource management better where that much RAM wouldn't be needed?
In general, R80.10 requires more RAM than R77.30.
I was unaware of a specific limitation with VMware and RAM allocation, though.
Thanks all for the specs and for your personal experiences/insights!
I know that minimum specs were asked; but are there max specs for supported cpu and ram on an open server?
vSphere 6.0 supports up to 128 vCPU and 4 TB RAM per VM.
That would be a big SMS when fully supported by Checkpoint ![]()
Thank you.
I was kidding. Don't know max supported amount of cores and RAM.
