Tips for quick rebuild of the management server
Hey guys,
Figured would share this, since I worked with a customer that had the issue happened to them. Basically, what happened was that they had to reboot their mgmt recently, but did not even realize their / dir was super low, less than 2 GB free. After reboot, nothing was starting, except apache, which is not useful for starting smart console, and even cpwd_admin list was giving watchdog error.
After trying bunch of things and also few reboots and cprestart, nothing worked, so here is how we fixed it.
-generated migrate server export using below sk:
https://support.checkpoint.com/results/sk/sk135172
-since mgmt was on R81.20, we built brand new VM with same version and shut down original one
-gave it same IP, ran first time wizard, ran migrate server import with file generated from original mgmt server migrate server export
-it was successful, imported all the licenses, cpm started and api status showed as successful
Just a tip if you ever find yourself in a similar situation. Though, Im sure lots of people would have snapshots generated, but if not, specially due to lack of space, this is a great way to get the server fully operational again, since we all know that without smart console access, ssh and web ui cant help if you need to make rule changes.
Hope it can help others.
Cheers,
Andy
