Good Evening - We recently completed migrations of our 3150 management appliances (R81.10) to new Smart-1 6000-XL's (R81.20) and and our ATAM suggested we could try out/ tinker with Smart Event on one of the 3150's configured as a dedicated log server even though they are no longer officially supported.
Each 3150 was built with default RAID 6_6 x 2TB drives from Check Point. Our plan was to consolidate the drives into one appliance, change the array to RAID 5, and then do a clean install. However, the appliance will only see the original six drives at boot and we do not seem to be able to do any type of RAID configuration at boot. There does not seem to be any way to enter any type of disk or RAID configuration utility.
We removed the six new drives and re-booted the appliance as normal - then re-added the new 6 drives. raid_diagnostic sees them and outputs them as "State:UNCONFIGURED_GOOD_SPUN_UP Flags:NONE" - so we know the system acknowledges them.
We are not concerned with data loss - this would be a completely new setup. We need to either get these added to the existing array, or completely rebuild the array like we would do on the 6000's (DELL PERC, server, etc)
We tried pushing the clean install through using an Isomorphic drive and were also only presented with the option to do partitioning on the original 6 disks.
The old 3150 docs indicate that a 6 disk install can support RAID5, RAID6, and RAID50 - so even if we only use our original 6 drives and successfully boot like normal, how would we be able to make modifications to the RAID even if we wanted to?
I know this is a little behind the times, but we expected a smooth process like normal, so all ideas are appreciated!
Thanks!
