Moving Full HA R77.30 to R80.30 distributed on new gateways and open server management

Hi Community,

One of my clients currently has a Full HA environment running R77.30 on 4600 appliances. They have now purchased two 5100 appliances and a single open server to migrate from the full HA environment to the distributed environment on R80.30.

Has anyone got experience with this or a recommended method? I was thinking to do a migrate export/import however would this also pull the gateway configuration given the HA setup or not? If it doesn't pull the gateway configuration then I guess I could use this export to get the new management server up and running. Then extract the clish configuration from the 4600 appliances relating to the gateways specifically to build the new 5100 gateways?

Also they have a 3200 standalone appliance on R77.30 which also needs to be upgraded to R80.30, anyone know if they operate okay on R80.30 as standalone.

Thanks in advance..

I believe you will need to follow sk61681 . You basically separate the products on the source version, then perform the migrate export and import into the distributed environment. While it states it's not valid for R80.x, I believe that only refers to the source version.

Hi Muhammad,

first of all keep in mind this guide: Installation and Upgrade Guide R80.30

About your considerations, the migrate export tool export the database, and doesn't care about os configuration, so you'll need to extract all you need from the cli for both the new management server and the new cluster, as previosuly sugggested.

Before upgrade the 3200 app, check the requirement are meet in R80.30 Release Notes

Are you planning to change the SMS ip and hostname?

Yup, understood I am familiar with the upgrade guide and release notes, rather was looking for anyone with real-world experience.
Customer hasn't decided if they are going to keep the current IP for SMS or for gateway.

We did that quite often, i fear - last was from R71.30 to R80.xx!

First step is made while still on R77.30:

sk44201: How to migrate Full HA environment to Distributed environment

Maybe you also have to consult sk98831: "Execution finished with errors" message on migrate import / export command failure

After you have the SMS R77.30 in VM and a R77.30 Cluster, you can upgrade using the standard procedures (CPUSE).

Wow! Big jump!

I understand the need to make it into a distributed environment while still on R77.30 as per sk44201 ,I guess I was looking for a shortcut seen as the customer has purchased 5100 appliances to replace the current 4600 appliances and a VM for SMS.

Therefore am I correct in understanding to take the current 4600 Full HA environment on R77.30 and turn it into a distributed environment in this case a SMS on VM and the 4600 as gateways. Then upgrade the SMS to R80.30 once this is complete and the 4600 cluster on R77.30 is manageable via the new SMS.  After this I should copy the clish config from the 4600 appliances and replicate on the 5100 appliances which will already be on R80.30, once the clish config is on I should power down the 4600 cluster and introduce the 5100 cluster and integrate into SMS and do all the bits as usual to bring gateways online.

Have i got the correct procedure above?

We do have costumers doing/done that. The main recommendation is to split your R77.30 Full HA before you move to R80.30. Will be much easier.
