Migrate/Move 1 Pair Of VSX cluster from VM-based Management Server to Smart-1 Appliance

Hi All,

We are using a vm-based management server to manage a pair of vsx cluster with relative 8 vs. We plan to migrate vm management to smart-1 appliances to manage the existing VSX cluster.

Current management version is R81.10 with hotfix take 81.
Let say, the new management server will be installed with same version R81.10 and remain the same management IP as current vm management server,

I plan to do migrate export from current management then migrate import into new smart-1 server, then shutdown the VM management server. In this case,I will no need to re-establish SIC of VSX Cluster as the ICA and all the certificate trusts should still be intact after imported into new smart-1 server. This method seems like has no downtime required, the reason being is downtime windows is very to get approval.

Also, if anything goes wrong I can shutdown the new smart-1 and bring up VM server to manage back VSX Cluster without the need of establish SIC.

Does the procedure sound logic?

Thanks

That's the idea, if you use migrate_server and keep the same names and IP for the HW server.

If your migrating the manager from VM to appliance and keeping the same hostname, IP address, then you should not have an issue with SIC or connectivity.

Even if you choose to upgrade from R81.10 (offline) to R82 you should still be ok.

If I choose to use new IP and hostname in new smart-1 server, I will need to reset SIC vsx cluster then re-estasblish SIC with new smart-1, does it need to reset_gw as per say in sk101690  or need vsx_util_reconfigure?
