Hypervisors for running gateways and SMS

Upto now I've always used VMware as my hypervisor of choice for building gateways and management servers in my lab, however with the current direction that Broadcom are taking VMware I think it's time for a change. My initial thought was Proxmox, and I see on here people are using this without issue, but I was wondering if anyone has ever tried installing gateways and SMS on Unraid as the hypervisor?

I personally always use eve-ng, its the BEST...just my opinion. But, to answer your question, I know customer that did use Unraid and they said was fine, no issues,

Best,
Andy

Promox, Unraid, and even @the_rock's favorite EVE-NG all use KVM under the hood.
Which means it should work.

Personally, even if yearly license was 1000$, I would still argue its worth it, and its about 300, so thats worth it every penny, in my humble opinion 🙂

Hyper-V also definitely works. Some older CloudGuard images seem to think any Hyper-V host is Azure, but installing from ISO always works, and newer CloudGuard images work.

I haven't had time to try FreeBSD/illumos' bhyve or OpenBSD's vmd(8). The former is very likely to work. I suspect the latter would take substantial effort.

VirtualBox works, but it's mediocre all around.
