Fresh install - Management Interface IP on bond interface for Openserver

Hi,

Seeking advice regarding setting up a bond interface as Management for a fresh instance of logserver in a production environment.

During Gaia install, the setup requires defining one of the available interfaces as Management interface.  I have one available IP that I can use for the server, setting that up on one of the available eth interfaces restricts me in further setting up the bond once Gaia install is complete.

If I set up eth0 as management and assign it the IP I have allocated for the server, creating the bond would only be possible for all other interfaces only (bonding is possible only for interfaces without IP address configured); furthermore, I cannot remove the IP from Management interface without having an IP for the bond. And I would avoid setting up a "dummy" IP for the bond or eth interface selected as Management during Gaia install since I am not fully familiar with the environment.

So, my question would be the following: what is the best way to have a bond interface configured as Management interface on an open server, given the restriction during the Gaia install of selecting only available physical interfaces.

Thanks,

Daniel

My suggested steps:

1. Finish installation of open server with real IP (later used for bond) assigned to any of available interface

2. Once installation is done, connect over console

3. On console, remove the desired IP from current interface (you will be able to connect ONLY using console connection)

4. Create bond interface and assign to bond the desired IP

5. Check/correct default route

6. shutdown the former interface used (if not part of bond)

7. Finish First Time Wizard

Kind regards,
