Forget Checkpoint manager password

Hi Checkmates,

I forgot the password for Security manager to login using either smartconsole or CLI. Please advice solution for the recovery without factory reset the security manager.

Did you already review knowledge articles like sk163461?

CLI brother, there might not be an easy way. Smart console, super easy if you had ssh access, which sadly you dont. I feel what Chris sent is your best option.

I know these AI answers might not be super helpful, but worth trying in your case...

Option 1: Reset via Single-User Mode (GRUB Boot)

  1. Reboot the Security Management Server.

  2. At the GRUB menu, press e to edit the boot parameters.

  3. Locate the kernel line (starts with linux) and append the following to the end of the line:

    ini
    init=/bin/bash
  4. Press Ctrl + X or F10 to boot.

  5. You will be dropped to a root shell without a password.

  6. Remount the root file system as read-write:

    bash
    mount -o remount,rw /
  7. Reset the admin password:

    bash
    passwd admin
  8. Reboot normally:

    bash
    reboot -f

After rebooting, you can log in via CLI as admin with the new password. Use cpconfig to reset SmartConsole passwords or recreate users if needed.
