Checkpoint Publish and Install difference
Hi,
I am going for certification CCSA, can anybody tell me what is the difference between Publish and Install in R80. And what happens if we doesn't publish before installing. Also how does it differs with R77?
Thanks in advance.

Publish is equivalent to "Save" in R77.x (i.e. It commits the changes you made in SmartConsole to the management database).
Install is what compiles the policy and pushes it to the Security Gateway.

actually that's not accurate, because in R8x you have the changes saved automatically. Hopefully the video at https://community.checkpoint.com/t5/General-Management-Topics/Is-R80-10-Publish-same-as-R77-Save/m-p... can help to clarify things.

Yes, the changes are saved automatically--in a session.
That session does not get committed to the configuration until you publish.
This is the closest equivalent to the "save" action in R77.x. 😬
