Raise discussions on new forum?

Is there a way to raise discussions and topics on the new forum of Check Mates as it was possible on the previous one? All I seem to be able to do at the moment is post questions.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, this is a discussion 🙂

Yes, we have less types of posts, which is probably for the better.

Ok, so a single, "unified" link for doing everything essentially then 😉

Thank you!

That really is a big change - when starting a discussion or posting a document, there is no need to accept anything as a solution. Nice to have that for questions, but even then, a solution for one customer may not fit for any other... No smileys anymore, i must add 😉

Haha, I tried putting a smiley as well on this very post but to no avail!

We have had to disable smilies, because the platform was applying them to scripts as well.

🙂

On the old community, we had different post types within a given space that permitted different interaction styles.
This had benefits but also created issues when a post was created in one style when a other may have been more appropriate.

In this community, there is only one type of content you can create per space.
Right now we are only using discussions, groups, and blogs.
There are a couple other types we may use in the future.
"Post a question" is the default text that shows in that button.
I'm open to suggestions about what it should say instead.

It's not that big a deal but it would be best I think if the option to raise discussions were to be brought back. Not only does it feel a bit strange when raising a discussion by clicking on a button that says "post a question" but it is also a bit more difficult to differentiate between discussions raised by the more experienced members and actual questions raised by everyone else.

These are my thoughts anyway.

Sure, we could create a second button that says something different, e.g. "start a discussion," but it will create the same type of post in the end.
A second button that does the same thing would be redundant 😬

As I said, not too big a deal 🙂
