R82 on a 2200!
I need a few disposable firewalls to try something, and I have some 2200s and an R82 ISOmorphic drive sitting around. R81.20 gave me trouble on them earlier (missing storage driver, I think), so I thought surely R82 wouldn't actually work. Still, I had a little time to let something cook during a meeting, so I tried using the existing drive rather than reimaging the drive with R81.10.
THIS DEFINITELY ISN'T SUPPORTED, but apparently R82 will install and run on a 2200! If you manage to find a box with a permanent license still in the User Center, it could be a good way to keep a standing box around to try stuff without a constant stream of evals.

Did you up the memory & hard disk?
When the SEs were issued them at first we all did, later they were issued to new SE that way.
Time to find the pile of trade-ins Check Point never told me what to do with 🙂

Not yet. Right now, the one I'm using is at 2x2GB and a 320 GB spinning drive. I know it can take 2x4GB DDR2 SO-DIMMs, and the drive is standard SATA, I just haven't bothered to upgrade it yet.
I have more 2200s spare than 3600s, so I might try to make them an ElasticXL cluster to throw more members in it.

Good idea! Btw, lowest supported if I recall is 3100 model.
