Openserver Dell R660xs, anyone ever tried this machine?

Hello Check Mates,

question to the audience.

has anyone succesfully installed CP GAiA (R82) on a PowerEdge R660xs ?

Customer has the intention to use this machine ...
detailed specs are:

  • CPU: 2 x Intel Xeon Gold 6526Y
  • Netzwerk: Broadcom 57414 dual port 10/25GbE SFP28
  • Storage: BOSS-N1 controller card + with 2 M.2 960GB - (RAID 1)
  • BMC: iDRAC9, Enterprise
  • Memory: 256 / 768 / 1536 GB RAM

based on the CP HCL the model R660 seems to be supported for the R82 MGMT part, thats sufficient.
but i did not find much related to the other components, especially the NIC.

since my lack of Dell experience i cannot make good assumptions here.
goal is to use this server for the SMS and SmartEvent components, running R82!
any help is highly appreciated!

thank you very much!

Worst case, it has two or three PCIe slots and an OCP 3 slot. You can always add a card with supported drivers.

I know customer that uses that exact machine with R81.20, they are very happy with it. They dont plan to upgrade to R82 any time soon, so cant say for sure if they did, whether there would be any issues or not, but considering R81.20 works well, I can only logically assume R82 would most likely work as well.

Was talking to that customer today and guess what, they decided to update the server to R82, as it is only management and they have real good rollback procedures in place. They will do it tonight, will let you know once I check in with them tomorrow morning my time (early afternoon for you). I told them from all my lab testing, R82 as management works real well.

Best,

Andy
