I dont have anything less than R81.20 in the lab to confirm this, but regardless, if its there, you cant really delete it, its part of the OS.

Maybe someone from CP can comment on this, but I also checked my R82 and I see those options there. Just to make sure, if you do same on the other R81.20 gateway, do you see options I pasted below?

Andy

R82> set dns
mode - DNS mode
primary - Primary DNS Server
proxy - Set DNS Proxy related values
secondary - Secondary DNS Server
suffix - DNS suffix
tertiary - Tertiary DNS Server
timeout - Timeout for DNS responses.
R82> set dns mode
default - Set DNS mode to default
per-vs - Set DNS mode to per-vs

Yep, seems thats new in R82. I get same in R81.20

[Expert@CP-FW-01:0]# clish
sCP-FW-01> set dns
mode - DNS mode
primary - Primary DNS Server
proxy - Set DNS Proxy related values
secondary - Secondary DNS Server
suffix - DNS suffix
tertiary - Tertiary DNS Server
CP-FW-01> set dns

R82:

R82> set dns timeout default
DNS timeout:
Set the amount of time (in seconds) the resolver will wait for a response from a remote name server
before retrying the query via a different name server.
The default timeout is 30 seconds.

R82> set dns timeout default

Why would anyone delete a clish configuration command = this idea itself is rather sick, as i can think of no reason for such a wish.

I have found that the command is present in R81.10, too:

GWS76> set dns
GWS76> set dns
CLINFR0339  Incomplete command.
GWS76> set dns
mode      - DNS mode
primary   - Primary DNS Server
proxy     - Set DNS Proxy related values
secondary - Secondary DNS Server
suffix    - DNS suffix
tertiary  - Tertiary DNS Server
GWS76> set dns
mode      - DNS mode
primary   - Primary DNS Server
proxy     - Set DNS Proxy related values
secondary - Secondary DNS Server
suffix    - DNS suffix
tertiary  - Tertiary DNS Server

It is also present on GAiA Embedded at least since R80.20.xx and in GAiA at least since R80.40, see https://sc1.checkpoint.com/documents/R80.40/WebAdminGuides/EN/CP_R80.40_Gaia_AdminGuide/Topics-GAG/H...

There is no need to delete anything, the system is functioning as normal with that line in the configuration. It's VSX related, so you can set 'per-VS' DNS when running in VSX mode, if you're not using VSX mode then leave it as is and nothing has changed compared to a system that doesn't have it there.
